Meet Sam Quinones

Sam Quinones is an award-winning author known for finding extraordinary stories in everyday American life. His book, The Perfect Tuba, follows tuba players and band directors who found purpose not through fame or fortune, but through hard work, perseverance, and community — people who found belonging simply by showing up and doing something they loved, together.

That story feels like home to us. Rowing isn’t the flashiest sport, but for the youth, adults, veterans, and adaptive athletes we serve, it offers the same thing Sam writes about: a place to belong, a reason to keep showing up, and the quiet confidence that comes from working hard alongside others. An evening with Sam is a true reflection of everything Delta Sculling Center stands for.
