DSC Para-Rowers Medal at Oakland Regatta

Tears and smiles of joy spoke volumes about DSC’s participation at the Boats Without Barriers Regatta on the Oakland Estuary, May 18th. DSC’s three para-rowers, Gaby, Rachel and Tricia as well as Masters sculler Renaldo, all came home with medals and PR performances. Tricia, in her first-ever race on the 12th anniversary of her emergence from a life-threatening coma, shed happy tears upon returning to the dock with Coach Pat in their inclusive double event. Even Oakland’s dock masters were in tears, realizing how far she’d come to race in a regatta, a culmination of things her doctors said she’d never be able to do.

Gaby and Rachel raced in single sculls, and Rachel was accompanied by Renaldo in the inclusive double event as well. DSC Masters scullers Beverly, Bob L., Bob O., Jean, Jeanine, Kim, Paul and Rebecca also competed in the 4th annual Boats Without Barriers Regatta, one DSC has raced in every year since it began. And their bountiful potluck lunch rounded out the day’s activities.
