DSC’s Youth Scull Against the Best in the West

DSC’s youth scullers proudly left the USRowing Southwest Youth Championships last weekend. Competing against the top rowers from throughout the Southwest and up the West coast, two of our three entries made it to the semifinals and finals. Gabe E. and Suleyman C. (at only 14 and 13 years of age, respectively) became the second DSC juniors (and the first in a men’s double) to advance to the grand finals in their Under 16 event. Last year’s grand finalist, “Nitro” Nathan McDaniel, made it to the semifinals, but rain and gusty winds washed out his chance to make it to the finals when his men’s single semi-final race was canceled Saturday afternoon. DSC’s women’s U16 double team of Scarlette C. and Kensley M. pushed hard throughout their first race at the S.W. Championships.  This was a great learning experience for when they get back on the Lake Natoma course next year.

Family members helped cheer on and feed our juniors throughout the 3-day event. Coaches Tania and Ivy came up with a great t-shirt design for the athletes and we appreciated Tania’s special efforts to make and get the t-shirts to everyone just in time! Special thanks to Coaches Jessica, Ivy & Jonathan for all their time and expertise at the regatta!
