A new collaboration with the San Joaquin County Office of Education and Aspire Secondary School Academy in Sierra Vista, as well as DSC’s on-going relationship with Aspire Langston Hughes Academy’s PE teachers allowed hundreds of local school children to look forward to indoor rowing on ergometers (rowing machines) this past school year as well as learn about how indoor rowing translates to the water.
Teachers from SJCOE’s Discovery ChalleNGe Academy and another alternative education high school for at risk youth accomplished the ultimate goal of getting some of their students to DSC’s boathouse. Not only did their students tour the boathouse and enjoy the waterfront at Buckley Cove, but they also had first-hand experiences of sculling in the cove.
DSC can offer these programs thanks to grants and generous donations of our sponsors and individual supporters. Read more about the impact and reach of these programs in SJCOE Outlook magazine.
