Gabe Deepens Sculling Development at Arizona Camp

Delta Sculling Center’s own junior athlete, Gabe, took his sculling to the next level at the Intermediate Rowing Camp at Rio Salado Rowing Club in Tempe, Arizona—where he was the youngest participant and surpassed all expectations!  

Over the three-day camp, Gabe soaked up knowledge from renowned East Coast coach Kevin McDermott, who was struck by how engaged and insightful he was. From video review to on-the-water sessions, Gabe had more questions (and answers!) than anyone else, showing just how much he’s grown as a rower.  

Balance drills, stroke efficiency, and technical refinements were all on the agenda, and Gabe took every challenge head-on. He also came home with a deeper appreciation for how well Delta Sculling Center cares for its boats, equipment, and—most importantly—its athletes. The camp reinforced everything DSC strives for: developing confident, capable rowers who thrive both on and off the water.  

This incredible opportunity was made possible by DSC’s amazing community of supporters, who helped cover travel expenses for Gabe and his mom. A special thanks goes to DSC co-founder Bob’s sister Susan for hosting them, and to everyone who contributed to making this experience a reality. Gabe’s mom even got to ride along in the coach boat, seeing firsthand how her son is growing in the sport.  

We couldn’t be prouder of Gabe’s dedication and achievements—this is just the beginning of his journey!
