DSC’s Juniors had so much to celebrate as this year’s after-school recreational and competitive programs ended! As Program Manager Jessica stated, “Each and every athlete deserves to be recognized and celebrated for their hard work, commitment, and growth this season.”
Coach Hannabeth recognized the growth of a cohort of new DSC youth leaders she is developing in our Ambassador Leadership Program. They are benefitting from a Brian M. Stocker Foundation awarded project, Rowing Toward a Healthy Future, granted by the San Joaquin Community Foundation. The project centers on rowing, healthy living and leadership training of youth (Scarlette, Sebastian and Suleyman) who are experienced scullers working with younger novice rowers and developing presentation skills for community outreach about our sport. Scarlette also received DSC’s first annual Sportsmanship Award for how much spirit, dedication and reliability she brought to this year’s team.
Families and supporters contributed tasty side dishes and desserts while chef and volunteer Coach Derrick (with assistance from sous chef Rashawn) fired up burgers, dogs and chicken thighs for our juniors, their families, coaches, DSC Board members and community supporters. DSC thanks our neighbors, the Stockton Sailing Club, for allowing us to use their picnic venue alongside the river we scull on almost every day.
