Bridget Childs

Advisory Committee

Bridget Childs joined Delta Sculling Center (DSC) with a passion for creating accessible opportunities for all in Stockton, especially in underserved communities. As a lawyer with extensive experience in risk management and public service, Bridget brings a unique skill set to DSC’s Advisory Committee. Her motivation stems from her desire to find a form of exercise that was gentle on her body while also offering a sense of community. Bridget quickly realized that rowing, with its calming effect and low impact on the joints, provided the perfect balance.

Her initial involvement came through Stockton Rowing Club, where she met DSC founder Dr. Pat Tirone, PT, DPT, Ed.D. Inspired by Dr. Tirone’s vision of creating an adaptive rowing program, Bridget shifted her focus to Delta Sculling, recognizing the unique opportunity to combine physical fitness with community service. For Bridget, DSC stands out because it offers more than just a sport; it fosters a sense of belonging and community, particularly through its efforts to include veterans, people with disabilities, and youth who would otherwise lack access to such opportunities.

Bridget’s contributions to DSC’s board are informed by her legal expertise, particularly in navigating risks and liabilities that could impact the organization. While she acknowledges that her demanding career limits her involvement in specific projects, her quick analytical skills and ability to offer guidance from a legal perspective have been invaluable. Her focus is always on maintaining DSC’s mission of making the sport of rowing accessible to a broad spectrum of participants.

What makes DSC special to Bridget is the profound impact it has on both individuals and the community. Rowing at DSC is not just about physical exercise—it’s about mental well-being, providing participants with a peaceful connection to nature and a supportive community. She is particularly passionate about DSC’s mission to engage underserved communities, including veterans and young people from areas of Stockton that often lack access to recreational opportunities.

Bridget believes that DSC’s success is driven by the heart and dedication of those involved. “Delta Sculling has been successful because so many people give of their time, talents, and resources,” she says. This giving spirit is what has allowed DSC to grow and thrive. Bridget encourages others to get involved, whether as participants, volunteers, or donors, to help further the organization’s mission of inclusivity and community building.

Her advice for those considering joining the DSC community is simple: “Enjoy the community.” Whether on the water or in board meetings, Bridget has found that DSC offers a space filled with camaraderie, purpose, and laughter. She firmly believes that DSC’s continued focus on building public access to Stockton’s waterways and promoting nature through the sport of rowing will leave a lasting impact on the city.

As DSC moves forward, Bridget envisions the organization continuing to prioritize inclusivity and public access to the water, creating more opportunities for residents to experience the beauty and serenity of rowing. She remains committed to supporting DSC’s mission, knowing that the center plays a vital role in enriching the lives of Stockton’s diverse community.
