DSC Fares Well at Highly Competitive Head of the American Regatta

It was a hot day on the racecourse as well as weatherwise at the Head of the Port Regatta in West Sacramento, October 7th.  And DSC had several firsts. Rachel Tappero and Elise Hill, in single sculls, and Kim Sparrowk and Bob Oprandy in their first-ever doubles race together all came home with first-place cups. Kim and Bob, in the closest race of the day, finished less than a second in front of their competitors. Para-rowers Rachel and Elise were unopposed but had DSC buddies Bob Lee and Renaldo Abreu rowing alongside them with lots of encouragement during their 5 km. races.

In his first headrace in a single scull, high schooler “Nitro” Nathan McDaniel finished 2nd among four boats in his under 16 event with a full minute between him and the third place finisher. Also finishing strong were first-time single scull competitor Jean Hendrix and the first-time doubles pair of Beverly Klunk and Rebecca Abreu.

All DSC racers were pleased with their firsts and with the picnic that followed with their coaches, families and supporters, overlooking the Port of West Sacramento.
